The Great Commandment Is Really the Great Response

Jesus is asked to name the greatest commandment.   Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment." (Matthew 22:37-38 NLT) He goes on to say that the law and the prophets are based on this commandment and the command to love our neighbor. But later on, as his disciple John interprets how this happens, we see a different response. In 1 John 4:19 he says, "We love each other because he loved us first." (NLT) The message of the gospel is not the law and the prophets. It is the grace offered through Jesus Christ.

God made the first move. We live into the capacity to love when we truly discover what it means to live in the love of an awesome Father. So today, rest. Rest in the knowledge that your Father in heaven has your provision and best in His heart. Live into the assurance that the Holy Spirit is present and willing to transform your life. Know that this process can be trusted and you will find fulfillment and peace and purpose in life.
